Understanding MMPI-2 RF Scales with Score Interpretation: A Study on Transgender and Gender Diverse Individuals

The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2-Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF) is a widely used psychological assessment tool that helps clinicians understand an individual's personality, emotional state, and behavior. The MMPI-2-RF consists of 393 items that are scored on various scales to provide a comprehensive picture of an individual's mental health. However, little research has been conducted on the scores of transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals on these scales.

This study aimed to fill this gap by examining how TGD individuals scored on MMPI-2-RF scales. A total of 85 TGD individuals participated in the study, with 37 of them receiving mental health treatment and 48 not receiving any treatment. The results showed that there were significant differences between TGD individuals who received treatment and those who did not receive treatment on certain MMPI-2-RF scales.

To better understand these findings, this study conducted three sets of pairwise comparisons using t-tests. The first comparison involved TGD individuals who were not in treatment versus the MMPI-2-RF normative sample. The second comparison was between TGD individuals who were not in treatment versus those who received treatment. The third comparison was between TGD individuals who received treatment versus a large outpatient clinical sample.

The results of this study have important implications for clinicians working with TGD individuals. By understanding how these individuals score on MMPI-2-RF scales, clinicians can better diagnose and treat mental health disorders in this population. Furthermore, the findings of this study highlight the need for further research on broadband measures of psychopathology and TGD individuals.

In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the scores of TGD individuals on MMPI-2-RF scales. The results have important implications for clinicians working with this population and highlight the need for further research in this area.
